American Shohin

The American Shohin Bonsai Association (ASBA) invites American shohin bonsai enthusiasts to enter the ASBA Logo Tree Contest.

The ASBA is seeking all American shohin bonsai enthusiasts to submit photos of their shohin bonsai for a chance to have their tree represent the ASBA and become the association's logo.

The judges will select one winner which will be published and displayed online at www.americanshohin.org as well as having an article featured about the artist and tree in the ASBA newsletter publication. The winning tree will receive the honor of becoming the new logo for all legal documentation and will also receive an award plaque and lifetime membership to the ASBA.

Please read the following rules carefully.

WHO: The American Shohin Bonsai Association Logo Contest is open to all bonsai enthusiasts who live within the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. The members of the ASBA Board of Directors are not eligible to participate. You do not need to be a member of ASBA to enter.

WHAT: We are looking for individual tree photos of shohin bonsai. The entries do not need to be in a formal display. Only clean untouched photo’s (cropping is permitted) will be accepted. You may enter as many trees as you would like.

Entries must be:

1. Actually owned by the submitter.
2. An accurate reflection of the subject, without alteration (other than cropping.) Photographs must be clear, in focus, and without a distracting background.
3. At least three photographs are required. The first one is for judging and the second one should be with a ruler or object to reflect actual size of the tree and the third should represent a "top-down" view to give a perspective on overall shape.
4. Photographs can be submitted in JPEG or PNG format. Pictures need to be in high resolution – at least 300px/in and not more than 600px/in. File size should be kept under 10MB.

Entries will be judged on composition and overall appearance.

Decisions made by the judges are final.

JUDGES: The judge will be the renowned Shohin Bonsai artist Suthin Sukosolvisit.

WHEN: All entries must be received by ASBA before midnight EST December 31, 2009. ASBA will not be held responsible for emails that are not received. All entries will be posted on the ASBA website as they are received and after reviewing for potential alteration artifacts.

WINNING ENTRY: Will receive the honor of having their shohin bonsai become the new logo for all legal documentation of the ASBA, receive an award in the form of a plaque and free lifetime membership into the ASBA.

All entries must be accompanied by a non-exclusive, non-restrictive use waiver, granting ASBA rights to use the images for, but not limited to, printed publications, electronic publications and web sites.

LEGAL CONDITIONS: To enter the contest, entrants must agree to certain legal conditions (see section "Legal Conditions"). Entry of shohin bonsai into the contest implies acceptance of contest rules, regardless of whether entrants sign a statement confirming acceptance.

HOW: Enter as many trees as you would like. Entries are to be submitted in the format specified above through the contact form.

WHERE: Digital entries: Camera-made digital images or scans of prints must be submitted in the format specified above.

Winners will be notified by e-mail or telephone, according to information provided on the entry form.

LEGAL CONDITIONS

For ASBA to accept your entry, we need you to agree to the following terms.

1. You are entering this contest at your own risk. You must agree that, regardless of the outcome, you will not challenge the results of the ASBA Logo Contest (the "Contest") or file any claims or suits against the ASBA, their affiliates, directors, or officers, arising from the conduct of the Contest. You agree that ASBA need not return to you any images you submit and that ASBA may, in its sole discretion, terminate this contest without any liability to you. If ASBA terminates the Contest before its completion, ASBA agrees that it will not use your images for any other purpose.
2. You agree that the images you submit are owned by you or you have unrestricted reproduction rights, of a tree you own, and may be used without restriction by ASBA in, but not limited to, a printed publication, on a Web site, or in a slideshow. You may not revoke this permission to allow ASBA to use your images. Although you are agreeing to allow ASBA to use your images, you remain the owner of your images and may also use them in any manner you choose.
3. You promise that the photographs you submit are your own trees.
4. You promise that your photograph accurately reflects the subject matter and that it has not been digitally altered beyond cropping or adjustments to color and contrast.
